Meshkabad was the principal town of the Arak region until it was destroyed in the 19th century. The Meshkabad rugs are handknotted by semi-nomadic people and are similar to Hamadan tribal rugs. They are known for their double-weft construction, their geometric style and striking palette derived from natural dyes.
